The on-line training application ‘Worst Case Hero’ follows a serious gaming approach. It combines entertaining and challenging gaming experiences with casual and social learning processes. Small coherent units of information, provide quality information on disaster preparedness. Collaborative learning is promoted by embedding the application into ‘Facebook’. This enables users to compete and share their progress with friends.
Worst Case Hero was originally developed by the former EU-cofunded project ‘Team CP’, led by the Austrian Red Cross. Team CP developed a curriculum in disaster preparedness covering the scenarios ‘power outage’ and ‘flooding’ and adapted it for online use.
Within the Aware & Resilient project the completely new scenario ‘flu pandemic’ was added. The game, which was originally developed in German, is now available in Bulgarian, English, French, Latvian and Romanian.
